The Team Whisperer
We Fix Teams!

About Us

Our Why
We believe that our experience of working with others on a daily basis over a period of time will impact our physical health, our mental health, our family life, and our personal world view.
Our mission is to inspire teams and leaders in their connections, communications, and commitments with fellow team members.
We do that by demonstrating WIN – WIN behaviors that qualitatively change the team for good. We believe that by changing workplaces and teams, we change lives for the better!
“Treat a man as he is, and he will remain as he is. Treat a man as he can and should be and he will become as he can and should be.” – From THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE by Stephen R. Covey
One of my favorite quotes by author/speaker, Simon Sinek, says:
“Imagine a world where people wake up every day inspired to go to work, feel safe while they are there, and return home at the end of the day feeling fulfilled by the work they do, feeling that they have contributed to something greater than themselves. This is the world we envision.”
Simon put words to what I’ve always believed… that the workplace can and should be a place where you get to positively contribute your talents and skills, among people who appreciate you and challenge you to be your best, with a leader who cares about you as a person as much as he cares about your performance.

Leadership is Modeling for others the things that will produce the greatest results.
- Values – our internal reasoning for determining boundaries of right and wrong
- Attitudes – our posture and disposition re: people, circumstances, and outcomes
- Behaviors – our most frequent habits and practices that define our character
- Actions – our responses/reactions to situations, circumstances, people

Our What
We teach relational skills that enhance communication, conflict resolution, collaboration and creativity, and help the overall cohesiveness of the team. As team members feel accepted, connected, and respected, they will be more committed to the team, to the leader, and to the work.
“Remember that teamwork begins with building trust. And the only way to do that is to overcome your need for invulnerability!”
– Patrick Lencioni – The 5 Dysfunctions of a Team
Our How
Uncommon Perspectives on Leader/Team Behavior
You’ll find our approach to team dynamics, and our definitions of leadership, unconventional and out-of-the-box. We’ll spend more time speaking about WHO A LEADER IS than WHAT A LEADER DOES… and we’ll do it in the most dynamic way for you. We’ll demonstrate the differences between Teams and Groups, and show why it’s so much better to be on the team than part of the group.

Jay is a true professional. He is innovative, motivating, and inspiring to today’s and tomorrow’s leaders. He adeptly utilizes an extensive learning and development skill set and Jay is the consummate coach. Jay draws on past experience as a collegiate athlete and coach to help teams and individuals realize both strengths that can be leveraged and areas of opportunity that should be addressed. He’s patient, courteous, and self-aware; all of which make him the “team whisperer.”
Charlie Beyer

Thoughts and Ideas
Leader = Model
If you have kids, you know that being a parent is more about who you are and what you model than what you say.
Leaders often focus on trying to be a great leader rather than trying to be a great MODEL of the attitudes, values, relationships, behaviors, and actions that you desire in your team members. It’s hard to expect time integrity from your team if you consistently fail at managing your time. You can’t expect your team members to communicate with clarity if your direction is fuzzy and ill-conceived. What you model to your team is what you can expect to see in them.
So, the question you should be asking is not “Am I a good leader,” but rather”Am I a good MODEL?” Am I modeling for my team the values, attitudes, behaviors, and actions that will help them be successful if they follow me.
Here’s a quick and (hopefully) painless exercise you can do to assess the quality of your modeling. First, consider a couple of recent interactions you’ve had with members of your team.
- What did you model to that/those team members about the importance of connecting?
- What attitude(s) were modeled in those interactions?
- What value(s) do you think your team member saw in action?
- Would you like your behavior(s) in those interactions emulated by all of the members of your team?
- What specific actions are you modeling that benefit/hinder your team’s engagement and performance?
Once you’ve done a simple but honest assessment of your modeling, determine what is necessary to eliminate, and what is important to reinforce, if you are to get the best out of your team.
Modeling is an investment into your team, and the best way to position your team for reaching their highest achievements.
